Dr. Chiamaka Obianyor is a researcher and mentor passionate about creating more room at the table for people who aren’t normally invited to the table. As an African female currently working in corporate America, she has a strong interest in creating a functioning pipeline for more people like herself to move from high school to their dream careers.

Chiamaka grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and migrated to the United States in 2012 to pursue a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. She graduated with her B.S. in 2016 from Texas Tech University, and was named as one of the “Who’s Who Among College Students”. She continued on to Georgia Institute of Technology where she obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering in 2021, and was named one of the College of Engineering Rising Stars in the year 2020. During her undergraduate and graduate degree she participated in a wide variety of research including modeling underground gasification reactors and chemical evolution. She currently works in the Research and Development group in a Fortune 500 company.

Throughout her career, Chiamaka has been an active member of her community. Some of the ways she has served include leading organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers in which she developed programs aimed at increasing the number of Black Engineers, and organizing workshops for underrepresented college students as a Success Mentor at Georgia Tech. Chiamaka’s path has been filled with tons of adventures and learnings, and she hopes to share some of the tips and tricks she learned and continues to learn, to help others maximize every opportunity they are given.
